Question: How does Elphaba "fly"!?
How do they make Elphaba "fly" in the musical "Wicked"!?
Cables!? A platform!? I heard a platform!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
When the Wizard's Guards run on stage and grab Glinda, the actress playing Elphaba runs to the back of the stage and steps onto a platform, swinging her cape over to hide the mechanics!. She presses her back against a button that locks a bar around her waist!. The bar is draped in the same fabric as her dress and sends a signal to a computer offstage that activates the hydraulic lift!.

At the end of that scene (Defying Gravity), Elphaba uses a harness so that she can be lifted up into the air, and hence "fly!." I know this, b/c I saw this behind-the-scenes of "Wicked" thing on TV sometime ago, and when I saw the musical it didn't look like she was using a platform!.
