Question: Is there a dress code for theatrical performances!?
I will be attending an afternoon performance of 'Rent' this Saturday!. What is, if any, the expected dress code for the theater!? I have attended one off-Broadway show before, and it was in the evening!. I wore a suit that night, but I don't know if one is supposed to wear a certain attire to any performance, or if the time of the performance makes a difference, etc!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I would think business casual is ok, unless you're going to a highly acclaimed show, then maybe you'd want to put a tie on!.

Edit: also, it depends on the theatre!. If it's a local community theatre, I would think the above mentioned would be perfectly fine!. If it's Broadway, and it's an evening show, I'd dress up!.
The opinions vary widely!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I wouldn't worry about it!. If you're really concerned I'd go with casual dress-up!. I saw rent in jeans, but that's just me!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well, whatever you do, please do not show up in nylon sweatpants like the family I saw when I went to see CATS!.
In the afternoon, dressy is not required, but if I were you, I'd wear jeans and a nice shirt (not just some sloppy thing you do laundry in or something)!.
also - lucky you for getting to see RENT!!! I'm so jealous :)Www@QuestionHome@Com

Perhaps you should "Rent" a tuxedo : )Www@QuestionHome@Com

you should not be wearing jeans to a show!. just because others do so does not mean it is appropriate!. casual wear has leaked into other facets of life where it does NOT belong!. at the very least, you should wear kahkis and a button-up shirt!. feel free to wear a suit, there will be many others like you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

First of all!.!.!.I'm jealous! I wanna go! Second!.!.!.I'd go with casual, not a suit or anything!.!.!.khaki/polo shirt type deal!. Wear that outfit you wore last night, it looked fab!. Jussayin!. ;)

Have fun!Www@QuestionHome@Com
