Question: Does anyone have a reason why Brutus could be considered admirable in the play "Julius Caesar"!?

To quote Mark Antony: Brutus was the "noblest Roman of them all!."

Brutus was the only conspirator to kill Caesar for the good of Rome; all others did it for personal reasons!.

Brutus even killed himself to keep his promise to Rome!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Early in Act Three, Scene Two, Brutus defends his decision to assassinate Caesar!. He believes that his motives were admirable, and the Roman people agree!. (Well, they agree at first!. Then Mark Antony makes his famous "Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears!" speech, and the people turn against Brutus!.)

At the end of the play, Mark Antony calls Brutus (who is dead by then) "the noblest Roman of them all!." Antony was Brutus' enemy and opposed Caesar's assassination, but still found Brutus admirable!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It depends on your prospective!. If you consider Julius Caesar an unfair and overly powerful leader, then you might consider Brutus admirable in the eyes of the Romans for taking Caesar's life!. You may consider it admirable that he is able to lead such a large group of people in a time of war!. Maybe you consider it admirable that he died for a cause that he believed in!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Even though he partook in an assassination, he didn't do it out of lust for power or jealousy!.!.!. He felt Ceaser was becoming a tyrant, and that he must be stopped!. And he also struggled with his decision to conspire with Cassius and co!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

i think Brutus saw the killing of Caeser as a moral issue he tried to justify in his own mind!.!.!.he alone of the conspirators had a conscience!.!.!.!.Cassius hated Caeser and saw his assassination as merely a plan to be carried out to achieve his goals!.!.!.Brutus did not hate caeser!.!.!.he saw Caeser s death as being for the good of the roman body politic!.!.!.!.he saw the others like Cassius sneak into his house late at night wearing hoods and cloaks!.!.!.and recognised the treacherous low nature of their terrible plot!.!.!.he felt terrible guilt within himself as it was his participation in the plot that made it possable!.!.however he tries to fit the violence of the deed within his own high view of the outcome of Caeser s murder!.!.!.!.i m never sure if i admire Brutus or not!.!.!.i still cant decide!.!.!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
