Question: Les Mis Characters and age's!.!.!.!?
Im looking into auditioning for Les Mis but i have never seen it before, and dont know the characters!. I just want to be in the ensemble but i think its best to audition for a character as such!. But i have had a look at the characters but cant tell how the old the character really is!. Im a girl and am 13 years old, im not very good at singing, especially not high, i have brown hair and could look a bit younger than 13 but i'd prob only like to go for a character around the age of 10-15 maximum, any suggestions!. okay!. i don't think you could be Eponine or Cosette in Professional prods, but maybe if it's the school version!.
if it's professional, i'd say that if you want to go for young cosette, keep practising the sweet and innocent singing!
Female characters and vocal ranges:
Fantine - mezzo (low Gb-high Eb) - strong actress, a key part to the plot, but only in the show for about 20mins before dying!.!.!. probably should be aged 20-30 or at least look it, otherwise it'd turn into a teen pornography movie!.!.!.
Eponine - mezzo/alto (low F-high E belted) - needs to have a fab voice but developed and trained, so i'd advise against auditioning for this if it's professional!. go for it if it's the school version, but beware of high belty notes!.!.!. playing age (i think) 14-20, but it varies between directors
Cosette - soprano (low A - i think - to high C/Bb - seamless) - needs a strong soprano voice and good acting skills!. playing age - 13-20 (i'd cast her younger than eponine)
Madame Thenardier - Mezzo character voice!. kind of evil!. getting on a bit!. doesn't sing that much but needs AMAZING comic timing!.!. 35-55+ (if it's professional!. I say TRacy Bennet in London last year, and they made her look old)
Young Cosette - (child mezzo) sings castle on a cloud, and must break the audience's hearts!. aged 8-14 but must lok tiny
Young eponine - does nothing except shove little cosette out the way!. fun if you wanted to play young cosette lol
Those are the principal LEAD roles but here are some small ranged roles that would also be in the ensemble:
Crone - kinda old and creepy
Old Woman - also has a solo verse in lovely ladies
Factory Girl - Gets Fantine kicked out of Factory, a bit of a slut
Young Prostitute - need i explain!? anyway, must not be too proper, but with a good belt!. maybe about 13, but again same problem as i have with fantine's part!.!.!. ahem!.!.!.

There really aren't any characters in the show in this age range except for maybe Gavroche (who is a boy)!. Cosette and Eponine at the beginning are younger and at the end are older!.
If this is a community performance they will probably be casting principals and chorus older than you, but it never hurts to audition!. If you cannot sing high, that is okay!. Alto's are especially needed in choruses!. Good luck with your audition and even if you don't get in, don't give up! There will always be a need for someone of every age, gender, and singing range on the stage!. Maybe not in THIS show, but eventually you will get in!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
