Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
These are two very different plays!. The Zoo Story is the easier to understand, I think!. Jerry is a person who has become alienated from society and has no maningful relationships with anyone, the story of jerry and the dog, is his explanation of how difficult it is to have an meaninful realtionship with another human being!. Jerry concludes that only his death will give him that relationship, and that is why he goads Peter into aiding him in his suicide!. The author sets forth the message that our society alienates people and causes them to commit suicide!. It is a powerful play, an actor's dream, but its negativity makes it less than popular!. The American Dream is a satire on our values and once again shows that people's lives have no meaning or purpose!. Albee's negativity again makes a play less than popular!. These two plays and the rest of The Theatre of the Absurd which they belong to, are rooted in the aftermath of WWII and express some people's dismay that humans could be so cruel to one another!. The playwrights' conclusion is that man is an absurd creature running about messing up an otherwise rational world!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
