Question: Should I perform the monologue that is funnier or the one I feel I perform better!?
I am auditioning for a director I've never worked with before for Noises Off, a stage comedy, in ten days!. I'm required to perform a monologue for him as part of my audition!. I have several monologues at my disposal and have narrowed it down to two I can perform verbatim!.
One monologue is funny and described as "comic", while the other monologue is described as "Serio-Comic"!. I can see the humor in both but the comic monologue is more "laugh out loud funny" while the serio-comic monologue has a "That's funny because I can relate to it" vibe!. The catch is I truly feel the latter monologue in my heart and have no problem performing it because I too feel what the character feels in that situation, whereas with the comedic monologue I can perform, but in real life I've never experienced the situation the character has, so it doesn't seem genuine (at least to me, other people I have read this to said it was well done)

Should I perform the funnier one or the one I can relate to better!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Normally I would say do the one you feel more comfortable with!. However, Noises Off! is definitely a farce and I'm leaning toward the comedic one!. If it makes you feel any better this show is MOST DEFINITELY an ensemble piece and any good director who is doing this show should be more concerned with your timing and how you relate to others rather than how well you perform a monologue!. I do not recall any characters with an actual monologue from this show!. (Except maybe Dottie on the phone!.) Good Luck with your audition!.

P!.S!. If you get in I would love to know who you get!. This was one of the best shows I have ever performed in!. Certainly it is one of the funniest plays ever written!. It is SO physical I lost a lot of weight doing it AND it is the show where I met my husband (he was playing Gary)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

always go with whatever makes you feel good it doesn't matter which one is funnier just do what feels right to you don't worry about anyone elses opinions!. Just be you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Do the one you are most comfortable with!. You have some problems as an actor if you are having trouble relating to material!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

if you're not comfortable with the monologue, you might freeze and not get a part!. I'd do the one that you know better!. Plus, it'll probably be less overdone than the other, so will make you stand out betterWww@QuestionHome@Com

I definatley think that you should do the one you yourself said you could relate to and perform better!. Even though you are auditioning for a comedic based thing it is still better to audition your best and then the directer will see what a great job you'll be able to do in the actual thing!. Rather than oh she can do a so so really funny thing!. Anyway no matter what you choose I'm sure you'll do great!. Good Luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com
