In a Theatrical sense, "narrative" IS the garble of "what happens in a story"!.

Do you, perhaps, mean what is going on behind the dialogue!? The "subtext"!? Do you mean stage directions!? Do you mean narration!? Do you mean an omnipresent overseer and commentator, a la Stage Manager in Our Town!? Do you mean a mere recititation of events, devoid of character (read: actorly) moments!? Storytelling!? "Y'know, fourty years ago, when I was in Tupelo, a feller said to me!.!.!."

All are Narrative!.

Herewith is Cider's attempt at a fine, concise and accurate definition of Narrative within the context of a play:

Narrative (n!.) The useage of verbal, bodily and contextual actions to further the plot and intent of a theatrical construct!.

Best I can do!. If, like George Harrison and "My Sweet Lord", I stole it from someone, it was unintentional!.

If not, when you (inevitably) use it, credit Cider!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
