Question: How do I find an agent for my 14 year old son who is desperate to become an actor!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Don't look for an agent!. If your son has talent the agent will find him!. Lots of people will be glad to take your money for photographs etc and promise work but don't get drawn in!. Get seen in anything that has some quality!. Join the best local drama group which has a reputation!. Your local theatre may run a junior drama club!. Make contacts!. Look in "The Stage " to see where auditions are being held!. Experience is all important!. Aim to go to a good drama school first!. You don't say what he has done so far!. This would help if you can elaborate!. Good luck!. It's a hard life but never dull!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'm unsure, but the best of luck to him!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

the best place is londonWww@QuestionHome@Com

I'd get in touch with a performing arts school/college first and see if they can give him an interview first to see if he is capable of cutting the grain!. You may not be able to afford tuition there but they may give you some advice!. If you can afford it would be much better in honing in on his talents and maybe guild him in the right direction!. Depends really on how much work experience hes had, has he been put forwards for bit parts, adverts, photo shots, all these things help build up the portfolio and its a CV which agents can work with, a blank canvas is no good when they are trying to market his talents to show organisers!.
Going through stage school he also gets to mix with others learning the same trade and will pick up more tips and confidence about acting world and create the competitive edge that you need to survive in this type of business!.
Going out and trying to find an agent yourself without any basis is setting yourself up for a fall!. Theres lots of unscrupulous people out there willing to exploit youngesters and their parents out of lots of money and not pulling in the results!. also contact local performing arts clubs etc and ask for advice on any organisational bodies which regulate these things!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

dont look for an agent , your child has to learn how to start on his own if he really wants it , you could try in your local thatreWww@QuestionHome@Com

I don't know what market you are in but here are some of the biggest!.

NYC, LA, Chicago, Atlanta, and Miami!.

The top two are:

NYC-mainly theater/broadway and soaps!. some print ads, and commercials!.

LA-EVERYTHING! Tons of print, commercials, and most of all TV and MOVIES!

TO get an agent, you have to do what's called a mass mailing!.

1-Take a few photos!. Looking at the cam!., smiling, and full body!.Print 20 of each (4x6)

2-Write a resume in this format (on source list), and print it on word!. If he hasn't done much community theater or student films at local colleges, skip this step!. You will also need 20 of those!.

3-Write up an actor's cover letter!. Make it short and sweet!. Tell them you are seeking representation, and are available anytime, they're welcomed to call!. Mention anything he is currently acting in ie-school play lead

4-put it all in 9x12 envelopes and mail it to agencies such as Ford, Wilhelmina and CESD!. Product and Generation are in nyc along with Gilla Roos!. Creative Artists Agency is big in LA!.

5-You can read these message boards for free- also make an account w/ resume and pics!. it's worth it! You can be your own agent for now and find him auditions to apply to on Backstage!.com on the home page there is a link to message boards!. also, do the monthly payment, and try it out for 1 month!

The agents will call you back in maybe a week, !.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.or 3 months! I have been called 3 months after a mailing, and other times, 2 days later! If you include a self adressed & stamped envelope, you will get a reply whether or not they want to sign your son!.

also, think about going to LA for a month in the summer and staying in oakwood apartments!. In cover letters to LA agents, ask them if they would be willing to 'try out' being your agent and freelance with them for the month you stay!. mention dates in the Cover Letter!Www@QuestionHome@Com
