Question:I am playing Hermia in Midsummer Night's Dream, but i cant seem to get her character just right!!

How can you create a character, to bring them to life!!

Im trying to think how she would walk, talk, what her thoughts are, but when i try to play it- it looks really blanc and like i'm either overacting, or not enough, or that im too girlish.
(In my mind sometimes like Gabriella form High School Musical .)

What are the stages to making her??
And giving a powerful and convincing and MEMORABLE !! performance!

Thank you, please only helpful answers-nothing negative!!!

:D Much appriciated!

The key to getting any role down is to just get "into" that character.
A good tip is to start an inner monologue in your head....in the voice of your character.
Example...for Hermia, in your head, pretend you're her. What would you be thinking about as her...not what's on the script...just in general. Sit around, look at people, think as she would think.
That's step one.
Then as soon as you feel a connection to her, start to feel an identity to her. Believe yourself to be her.
And...LEARN YOUR LINES....the best way to get any character, really, is to memorize your lines as quickly as possible so that you're not distracted by them...and then you can focus on character development.

But, most importantly, be there in each moment as your character. Don't "try" to be someone...don't think so hard that you're not getting it right or wrong. Be accepting of what's coming out of you. Accept that whether you do it right or wrong, it's happened...and you can't go back and say the line again-- so just throw that out of your mind.
You are Hermia....
Do some reading on it. You can go to Wikipedia to find backgrounds (most times) of different characters in literature, etc., and this will help you understand who you're playing.
Basically, try to spend a good amount of time learning the character...then another good amount living as the character off the stage...just at home or whatever.
So now, you're comfortable and when you get on stage, it's what they call muscle memory-- you don't have to work, it flows so much more naturally and you're not nervous or self-conscious about it.

Good luck!

not sure, but wish you luck.

Its not Looking at the Character,But Creating your own from a Plan.
Go back to Basics.
Do a Character Analysis.Make up a History of your Own for her.
When at the Theater, Be in Character all the time and only address questions in what she would know about. This does not mean Ignore modern Questions like " I don't know what a car is,we had horses in my city" just act and be the part. " Its called character Acting" Daniel day Lewis is one of the best, He never breaks Character on set.

Break a Leg

you really have to get "into" character. to the point where you are thinking her thoughts, where when one character says a line to you, you arent thinking 'what a dumb line' you're thinking 'why are you saying that to me?! why?' and all. get an almost monologue inside your head while your playing her, KNOW YOUR LINES and BLOCKING but add as muchh improv as you are allowed to make it less wooden
