Position:Home>Theater & Acting> Hi, what is the average weight for a theatre (not movie) actress?

Question:Hi, everyone. I am getting ready for college, but before I start auditioning, I would like to be in the best shape that I can be in. So I would like to know what the ideal weight for stage acting is? Not to be rude, but please, only those who have experience in this area answer. Thankyou

There is no such thing as average weight for an actress. They come in all different shapes and sizes. What is most important is you acting ability. Of course if you are a larger lady, you are likely to get more character roles than 'young love interest', but both kinds are possible. Looks are important to some degree, but not because everyone should be small and skinny. Each director will have an idea on the type of person they want to play a part, but can change their minds if the right person for the role comes along. Even if you are the most perfect and beautiful woman in the world, there will be parts which will never be open to you. Keeping fit (whatever size you are) is more important than which dress size you wear.

What height? Normal people probably that are pretty. Talent is the most important thing.

Probably depends on height.... but a size 10-14 would be OK.... No need to be scrawny; not attractive really....

There isn't an "average weight" all roles have different requirements. For example, if there is a child role in a pla where children typically do not audition (i.e. high school or college theatre) and the shortest person to come in is 5'7'' they need someone taller (at least with fairly high heels on) to play the mother. The taller of the two would therefore weigh more than the shorter.

The more different you are from everyone else auditioning for the same role, the more likely you are to get the part. If the role calls for a bigger character in the director's eyes, and everyone auditioning except you, is wearing a size 2 than you have the upper hand.

It all depends on what the director thinks will be best for that role. I think it's more so being willing to try to fit the director's wishes if it is asked of you. If the director thinks you need to dye your hair orange for the role (if for whatever reason he doesn't want a wig) are you willing to do so?

"Size matters not"

Hope that helps!
