Question:I am defending Romeo for killing Tybalt near the end of the book. Instead of pleing not gulity for Romeo I am trying to plea insanity. Can I have some examples from the book that shows Romeo is insane because he is so mad Rosaliene dumpd him. I would prefer if they were specific quotes from the book.

You can also plead self-defense.

Sorry, I don't have the text with me but for insanity, you can say that Romeo just saw his BEST friend killed (I'm talking about Mercutio, of course) and what's worse is it was Romeo's fault since he got in between them. AND, as Mercutio lay dying he was cursing BOTH the households.

Surely, seeing your best friend die, and furthermore thinking it's your fault, and FURTHERMORE him cursing your household... I'm sure you're going to get a little insane!

Also since Romeo DID NOT want to fight Tybalt. He told Tybalt he loved him, and how he loved his family's name (Capulet), since unknownst' to Tybalt, but Romeo just married Juliet, technically also making him a Capulet. But of course hot-headed Tybalt would have none of that love, lets-be-friends crap, and got all angry.

Also, can I add that I think you should drop the whole plead insanity BECAUSE of Rosaline, because once Romeo fell in love with Juliet all thoughts of Rosaline FLEW out of his head. Of course he was quite the depressed, love-struck teenager at the end, but he wasn't even thinking about Rosaline once Juliet stepped into his life.

He could also be insane over the fact that him and Juliet would have to face such obstacles just to see each other.

Depraved indifferance......if he knew any of the mitigating facts and proceeded with the crime anyway then he just did not care and was obviously intent but this is not insane...go figure...... Report It

  • Don't forget he killed Paris too (at Juliet's tomb). Most productions omit this to speed up the story.

That is a brilliant mock trial!!!
Well Romeo was stupid not crazy, but i suppose you could plead crazy hormonal teenager!
