We never had a war with the Irish. The Norse yes. Malcolm the Destroyer (Macbeth's predecessor - we are talking history now) was a complete tyrant who tried to wipe out all rival families who might have a claim to the throne to ensure his families succession. If there wasa civil war it would be people fighting against his cruel & tyrannical rule. MacBeth's family had a rival claim to the throne of Scotland so it is very possible he was on the opposite side to "the Destroyer" in any conflict.

In all actuality the disagreements between the English and Irish is a civil war. It is now and it was true then.
