I have played piano since I was like 11
I am now 17 and I'm on grade 5
.. so that can give you abit of an idea.

In piano you obviously have to play two different clefs at once, so read two different clefs with notes at once.

But I think that is a great thing to learn.

I can play the piano but I cannot play guitar.. well I find it hard to teach myself guitar anyway. (for piano I have a piano teacher, a private one, I recommend a private teacher more than ones at schools ect although some teach at schools and privately)

But it will of course help you with at least the basics, it depends on your knowledge of guitar.

As for being able to play songs right off the bat,, it depends on your ability and the skill level of the song.

But of course with piano there is sheet music pieces or you can learn songs other ways like people teaching you on youtube,, I can learn some songs very quick by both, and some take me a while.

It really does depend on your ability and the song.

You could at first be slow learning, then become a fast learner at pieces/songs.

But I definately say give it a go, you have nothing to lose trying do you?!

I think it is a nice, good instrument to be able to play.

Go for it!
The piano is a wonderful instrument, and the great thing about it is that it's enjoyable for people of all levels.
You can play recognizable tunes fairly easily and make them sound good, even if they are simplified versions.
And of course no sore fingers like you go through when learning the guitar!
Many piano books and magazines have popular tunes that are pretty easy to play, and as you get better you can move on to more complex songs.
And I think that knowing how to play the guitar might help, especially since it will have already developed your ear and sense of rhythm.

I started piano lessons at age five, and learned to play the guitar when I was 16.
Knowing some music theory and how to play the piano definitely helped in learning guitar, and as I got better at the guitar my piano skills seemed to go up too!

it takes time to tell you the absolute truth. but learning the piano has helped me pick up other instruments extremely fast such as guitar and flute. if you are dedicated you can fly through the piano courses fast. i did my first two years.
you won't be able right off the bat, most people cant unless they are prodigies. which im assuming you're not.
but i highly suggest piano. it's not hard. it's more common sense than anything.
