There IS going to be a High School Musical 3. It is going to be released in theatres instead of on the Disney Channel like the previous 2. All of the original principal characters will be returning, including Vanessa. There is also going to be a High School Musical 4. All of the principal cast members have been offered to continue their role but none have signed on as of yesterday. Hope this helps!
