Is Grease a good show to see on Broadway?

Question:Or should I see something else? I was trying to choose between Grease, Xanadu and Hairspray but I'm not sure which one I want to see. Is it a good show or is it really as bad as the reviewers make it out to be?

Out of those three, I'd pick Hairspray. Have you seen the movie Grease? It's pretty much the same, but there are a couple differences from the stage. The big thing is you won't be seeing Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta. You'll see people you don't know. I don't know if they're still there, but the original Danny and Sandy won the parts on a TV show like American Idol. I think it was called You're the One that I Want. They weren't very good, but they weren't awful either. Although the music is swell, the theme of "good girl turns trampy to win boy" isn't what I think the youth of America should be watching.

Xanadu...don't know anything about the stage show, but the movie really sucked.

Hairspray onstage is a lot of fun. High energy, funny, guy in drag. The theme is more like "Be who you are" or "Not only pretty skinny girls have fun". Much better words of advice.

Out of the shows you listed, I would pick either Hairspray or Xanadu. Grease will ALWAYS be coming and going on Broadway. I haven't seen the current revival, but I haven't heard very good things about it. I have, however, seen both Hairspray and Xanadu, and I can recommend them both. You'll have a fun time at either of them.

Or, you could go see Spring Awakening. Maybe I'm just biased. My screenname is kind of indication if what my favorite show is though. =P

Of those three, Grease is the weakest. I'd also choose Hairspray if I were suggesting a show for you. Hairspray is very well done, clever, fun, and a big show. Xanadu is a lot of fun and really well done - very smart too, but it is a very small show. Xanadu is actually a smart little *parody* of the movie - that is, it makes fun of it. Go for Hairspray if you have a choice.

why would you go see those?
they've been made into movies, which you've probably seen. which totally ruins the fun.
if you're going to see a broadway show you should get your money's worth.

wicked is a wonderful show.

but if those are the only ones you're intrested in i'd go with hairspray
