Position:Home>Theater & Acting> How to ACT SHAKESPEARE.......?

Question:Acting shakespeare can be quite challenging, but are there any tips and tricks to being able to act the lines well and bring them to life?
Even if the audience doesnt get what is happening (because of language~) to understand through the acting?

Thanksomuch!!

blackgrumpycat has some good advice. Just wanted to affirm the idea of knowing what you're saying, and then saying the lines as if you're just having conversation, rather than orating or "acting".

Shakespeare loved the language (and even invented some), so enjoy the words.

One exercise you could try to help you gain in "natural" speech is to "translate" the lines into modern speech, note how easily the words come and what they mean, then say it again as written.

For example:
Now, if you have a station in the file
Not i' the worst rank of manhood, say 't

Now, if you have a place in humanity that's not at the very bottom of the pile, tell me.

The only thing I can suggest is that if you need to fully understand the lines you are saying and then treat them the same way as you would an ordinary modern day script. If you know what you are saying, there is a good chance that the audience will understand what you are saying too.

I attended the Shakespearean Globe in Oxford shire and this is what they taught us.
Every Person in a Play by WS. Is based on a Character within the time line of his life or a few hundred years before.
Common folk are common,Royal are royal. But all represent Someone. Since we are not always sure what that someone is,First the troupe must agree on what and where our play takes place and base your character on a Person known to your Audience. Because no matter how the unwashed masses where considered Ignorant. They knew whom Shakespeare was referring to at the time.
Good Luck
