The book is pretty good. It is different from the musical much darker than the musical but still good. the biggest problem is that it has a major slow part towards the end but if you push through it it's a pretty good story. There are some saucy chapters about Elphie and Fiyero too. If you read it don't look to find the same story and even characters as the musical has. this Elphie is darker than the one that flies on stage. And Fiyero is blue! You also learn alot more about Elphie's family namely her father, mother, sister and brother. (Didn't know she had a brother huh?) It's a good story, dark story but good story nonetheless, worth reading at least once in your life.

I know people who loved the book. I'm not one of them. The story itself is excellent, but the way it is written, you have to read between the lines quite a bit. Some thing I'm not so good at. And I definitely preferred the musical ending to the book ending! This is just my opinion though. Don't let me scare you off if you are a Wicked fan. You might love the writing style.

It all depends on what you are expecting. If you're expecting a kid friendly book about friendship, you won't find it. It's dark, has sexual themes, profanity, and is VERY different from the show. I personally didn't care for it {I read it before I heard about the show, I just didn't find it my type of book}

I read the book before I saw the musical and I absolutely love both, but people who see the musical first and then read the book aren't as accepting. It is wonderfully written and definitely an adult novel for content and language (sex and swearing).
