Position:Home>Theater & Acting> What should I do about stage fright?

Question:I am auditioning a very small verse of Colors of the Wind for a solo for my music class. The singing in front of my class for an audition doesn't worry me. What does is singing in front of the crowd on night of the Spring Concert. I know all of the regular tricks already. I just need some tips on how to prepare myself.

I always thought since I am so shy to sing in front of people that I would clam up and forget the words or something. What I found out is that if I am in front of a small crowd (2-20 people) I cant sing right and turn bright red. At concerts with maybe 100 people I was just fine! When I went to State competitions I was singing in front of closer to a thousand; I sang better than I ever did before. This has always amazed me. I dont know why when the pressure is on and its a HUGE crowd, I sang like an angel. Hopefully this will give you the extra courage that you need. You'll do great. Good Luck Pocohontas!!!

practice in the nude in front of your stuffed animals. step out of the comfort zone

Practice on the stage where you will be performing. Imagine it filled with people. Make sure you know your song inside and out so that you can go on automatic pilot is case of extra nerves. Some people have pepto bismol before performing. No matter what it won't last forever and you'll go to bed as usual that nite. Remember people want to see you do well.

I find it easist to just pretend the people are not there. If your singing with another person on stage at the same time then pretend you're only singing to them. As you will have practised with them they already know you and your voice so theres no reason to feel self conscious. If you are by yourself then pick a point on the stage or out in the crowd and dont look at it all the time but sing to it. Or sing to enjoy yourself, pretend the people don't exist

GOOOD LUCK
