First write the scene the way that flows fastest for you to get it down on paper, then go back and edit it putting in appropriate dialog and such, that way thought and content won't be lost. Most inmates will have a lower educational back ground vocabulary and thought process so don't over write the scene, almost like two children argueing but with a sharp bit of adult drama involved.
Jails are designed so they keep inmates calm and blahza. Usually grey or baby blue tones, depending on your time area it will be clean but very boring so the inmates will not be stimulated to kill each other or have their minds race so they begin to wonder what their life could have been and become violent just to get rid of the thoughts. Like a sanitarium, very calm and bleak. GL! HTH!

I imagine jail lingo to be very derrogatory, if your serious, the best thing to do is watch movies or tv that feature jail scenes to get a feel of actions and dialect

research in google the british slang and even copy some lines from pirates of the carribean ;) go to a theasaurs and type in words such as "dirty, old, etc" to find similar words that are bigger and make it sound better.

google "british jail slang". [i actually think they spell it "gaol" so try that too] it should help, i've seen a lot of lists like that.

well people always seem to be angry (obviously) or sad. also, sometimes there is a little bit of bad language (i'm not sure what you are allowed to put in ur scene) and there is also very bitter attitudes which usually leads to cell mates calling eachother names/yelling/etc.

how about- the jail is cramped cold dark and smells of rust and sweat, the say bloody alot in england sp you can use that term too
