Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: I recently bought a flute and Im becoming better and better at playing it but I can only learn songs by ear and by watching other people play and I was wondering if anyone would recommend learning to read music and how long it would take to do so? I'd definately recommend learning to read music, though it is a great talent to be able to play by ear. Reading music isn't that hard to begin with, everyone forgets a few notes and stuff, ok it gets harder as you improve but you don't have to take theory exams if you don't want. I can read music but i don't know anything about keys, or stuff. You can learn the basics in a week, it really is very easy. It can take quite a bit, but after that, you don't even think about it and it'll become a second nature thing. I forget how long it took me. But if you really work on it, it could take you maybe a week to a month or so? You'll get it eventually. :) Easy Music can take just about a week but harder takes a while going over and over it will help out. :) Basics, a few weeks. Reading decently, a few years. Depends how long it is |
