Position:Home>Theater & Acting> I need someone's honest opinion.....?

Question:Ok, so, i have always been a straight A student and i graduated at the top of my class with all sorts of ribbons and medals and sashes on top of my gown at graduation. I am now in my second semester at college working on a journalism degreeand I have already changed my major 3 times, but nothing feels right for me. And as far back as i can remember, i have only been truly happy when i was performing. I took 8 years of dance lessons, was in my high school choir and drill team, and i can't even put into words the joy i feel when that curtain rises or those stadium lights come on. While watching High School Musical 1 and 2 and Hairspray, i got this idea that maybe theater/television/movies is what i am meant to do. Does that sound stupid to anyone? Cuz i know i feel stupid saying it. Please give me your thoughts on this matter! I will appreciate any feedback; positive or negative.

Of course it dosen't sound stupid, It sounds like your being honest and its actually quite invigorating. It sounds as if you truely feel alive when your performing and much is the case for many actors. Your calling is what ever makes you feel most alive, and if you spend your days at work editing articles yet find yourself day dreaming about acting now is your time to do it! Your just in college there's still time...you should follow your heart or you'll regret it for the rest of your life.

go for it! persue your dreams

it' s not stupid
do whatever u really want to do
but if it's something like performing u should be careful
MAKE SURE ITS WHAT U RLLY WANT 2 DO WITH UR LIFE

stop doing that journalism career and get into a drama class.
move to cali ny or floria and find a good movie producer.
get into broad way.
if journalism isnt ur passion u shouldnt do it.
:-D

Why not drop out of college, get a day job, and start becoming an actor? I teach people how to do that and it is free.

do what makes you happy

ha i feel the same way the exnienty you feel right before your que or how you feel so proud of yourself when your applauded. People can be born smart but that doesn't mean they have to go through so many years of college cause they think thats what you have to do when you graduate top dog of your class...... if its something you love and want to do, do it and then maybe some years down the road you want to retire and you can go into teaching other generations who has the dreams you once had and followed!

Do what you love! If you enjoy it, go for it!! If you can dream it, you can do it! LOL

I was in the same position. The best suggestion I can give is to try ONE acting class, and not just any acting class. Contact the Theatre professors at your college. There should be a website or way to contact just the acting professor(s) and ask what class they recommend. I DO NOT recommend taking any general theatre classes that are not considered within the Theatre Major. Those classes are meant to teach watered down theatre. If you really want to determine if it's for you, look for a class that REQUIRES you to participate in actual performances. (You may not get to act in front of people in this class, but you will learn what it really means to be an Thespian. People will tell you you are wasting your potential, that's why you should check it out for yourself. Be advised, jumping into a theater major may result in an increase of sexual activity, drug or alcohol abuse, or a sudden change in personality. Theatre seems like fun, but you will go to class all day, rehearsals at night and performances multiple times on the weekend. your life becomes theatre so it is best to test it out before you jump in.
