You don't sound like you've done a lot of research on this. The casting and auditioning process differs from show to show and from director to director.
They want good talent, and that'd really all you can worry about is yourself. Your preperation is key, your networking is key and your talent. That's all.

really hard. you have to earn your equity card by participating in professional show. Than you have to have a killer voice and you have to be almost exactly what the casting directors are looking for meaning you have to look and sound the way they want the character to. But you can do it if you try hard enough.
