Question:I am auditioning for Suessical at a local theatre and I need a song. I'd rather it be a song that is not so well known so I can stand out, but still a very good song. I am a mezzo.

My Strongest Suit from Aida (if you're belty)
Let's Play a Love Scene from Fame
Can You Find it in Your Heart from Footloose
Astonishing from Little Women
As Long as He Needs Me from Oliver

sing a song that sounds good on the piano, and that is in your range. how about the chorus of a thousand miles by vanessa carlton

Do something from a musical that's old, but still good - Guys and Dolls, Sound of Music, etc. Break a leg!

Look for songs that were written by the same composer/lyricists, because you'll have their style, but from a different show. (and most of their work has not been done to death at auditions, but it is quite good.) I always recommend "Times Like This" from Lucky Stiff, but you could look for a song from Ragtime or Once on This Island or My Favorite Year. Those shows were all written by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens, who also did Seussical.
