Here is a link to the Maine Association of Community Theaters. They will have a list of all the member theaters, most (if not all) of which will hold open auditions. Keep in mind, these are small local theaters that do not pay. They will be a wonderful way to get some experience though.

I also wanted to chime in here to restate that AMDA is considered one of the *worst* performing arts programs in the city, not the best. It is known around town as scamDA.

you should probably go to new york and get acting lessons then audition for a role there to..............good luck!!!

start small... do community plays. and go to every casting call you can. check local papers.

and if you have enough money, try to get into AMDA, one of the best performing arts schools. you need a lot of recomendations though...

At 18 you are far from being too old to start acting. If it is really what you want to do and there is nothing where you live, then you will have to do everything you can to move somewhere where you can do classes. If that means getting an ordinary job for the time being to earn money, then that is what you have to do. If acting is really your passion, then do everything possible to make it happen.

What you REALLY need to do is get into acting school, a college nothing else. You need experience, a college provides you with text book and aquaired knowledge along with plays that the schools do.
I really reccomend you prepare yourself for dissapointment and know that you will NOT get the lead role your freshmen year, STICK WITH IT though. Depending on your skills and willingness to learn you can get a good supporting role when you're a sophmore and MAYBE the lead when you're a senior.
DO NOT sleep with the director. Doing so will have nasty rumors spread when you're in college and can damage your career before it evens starts.
It's a good idea to take dancing in college because it keeps you in prime condition and you will do a lot of dancing in musical theatre.

The most important thing is to KEEP YOUR CHIN UP AFTER ROUGH AUDITIONS.

Hope this helps.
