First off, I would recommend joining a community theatre group, or your school's drama club. There are also acting classes that you can join. These will teach you the basics of theatre, strengthen your acting, and will give you a solid foundation.

I would also recommed joining an Improv (improvisation, or making things up on the spot) Club, if there is one in your area. Improv forces you to be creative, and since you would like to be a comedian/writer, I think it would be very helpful.

When you feel you are ready, start looking for open casting calls, especially ones for agents. Getting yourself known is a very good thing, and if an agent picks you up, you're good to go. You can still make it without an agent though.
