Position:Home>Theater & Acting> Stage door monologue?

Question:So there is this play called stage door, and someone I know mentioned that there was a good, appropriate monologue from that play for a pre-teen/teen to do. I really need a one minute monologue for a theatre camp audition, and I thought this one might work. If anyone knows where I could get it (preferably one line?!) that would be great. If not, are there any others that might work (one minute female monologue has to be from a published play or musical).

Monologues you find online will never be as helpful as ones you would buy in a book. Though it costs money, a book of monologues can get you through several years. Books I find appropriate for 7th graders would be:

Acting for Young Actors: The Ultimate Teen Guide - this book may have some material you'd find unsuitable. It's about $7 and could be found in a local bookstore.

50 Great Monologues For Student Actors- this is about $15.

100 Monologues: An Audition Sourcebook From New Dramatists- i'm pretty sure this is $7.

Audition Monologs For Student Actors- $11 or so.

Contemporary Scenes For Student Actors- i bought this for $15.

Sensational Scenes For Teens: The Scene Studyguide For Teen Actors!-about $12.

if buying monologues doeesn't suit your fancy, i've found these sites useful in the past:

Is this the play that Stage Door (1937) the movie was based on? If so, I doubt you will find an online sources, easily. Do you have a regular drama teacher or coach? Perhaps they can assist you in tracking down the text.

I don't know about Stage Door, but I do know there are some wonderful monologues in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and also a few from Alice in Wonderland. Those are both really, really good plays in which to get monologues. You said that it had to be from a play, or else I would recomend doing "Po po Martin," it's really, really good. Also, you could try looking different scripts, like "The Great Gilly Hopkins" would be a really good idea...Best of luck!

Is it a Comedy by James Sherman?
recommand another one to you: http://www.unicef.org/sowc08/docs/radiod...

Okay here is the monologue for you (I am using my script, I played Marcie and in our version, Marcie did the monologue)

(ON PHONE WITH TEACHER)

A "C"? A "C"? I got a "C" on my coat hanger sculpture? How could anyone get a "C" on a coat hanger sculpture? May I ask a question? Was I judged on the sculpture itself? If so, is it not true that time alone can judge a work of art? Or was I judged on my talent? If so, then is it right that I be judged on a part of my life over which I have no control? If I was judged on my efforts, then I was judged unfairly, for I tried as hard as I could! Was I judged on what I had learned about the project? If so, then were not you, my teacher, also being judged on your ability to transmit your knowledge to me? Are you willing to share my "C"? Perhaps I was being judged on the quality of the coat hanger itself out of which my creation was made... Now is this not also unfair? Am I to be judged by the quality of coat hangers that are used in the dry-cleaning establishment that returns our garments? Is that not the responsibility of my parents? Should they not share my "C"?

Thank you Miss Othmar. A "B" will be fine. (HANG UP)
The squeaky wheel gets the grease! Hmm... Maybe I'll become a lawyer.
