Position:Home>Theater & Acting> "Spelling Bee" open call?

Question:I recently found out about a non-equity open call for the national tour of "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee". I really want to go, but I'm at a loss for what to sing.

I'm a 20 year old female, mezzo range, with a pretty strong belt. Not a very high belt, just a pretty typical musial theatre sound. I imagine that my "type" is probably closest to Olive.

I'm looking for a good uptempo song that I can have fun with, and possibly reflects the style of the show. All suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

Take a look at some of William Finn's other shows...

Elegies
In Trousers
March of the Falsettos
Falsettoland
A New Brain
Infinite Joy

There are a lot of songs that you could use from those.
Definitely look at "Infinite Joy" "Anytime" "I Feel So Much Spring"

When I go to musical auditions, I like to try to pick pieces by the same composer, but from a different show - or from a composer with a very similar feel... in this case Sondheim (but make sure the accompaniment isn't too difficult for an accompanist to sight read.)

Break a leg at the auditions!

Do something that shows a lot of personality, something you can make some strong character choices with.

When and where are the auditions? I don't know if I would choose something by the same composer, just in case he is actually present at the audition.

FYI, like your brain did not explode, it's called a head ache, ithink
