Position:Home>Theater & Acting> How to begin in the acting business WITHOUT classes but verry good talent?

Question:I'm 15 years old, it probably looks random, but I have an acting talent since i'm 5.. acting classes would probably not be new to me. I've done everything at school. Also, my parents do not have the money to pay my acting classes. I really love this business and I really wanna find a GOOD agent. But it seems like everything is all about classes. Is that really necessary? I live in Canada, Montreal. I try looking for auditions but I don't find anything. I heard about www.hollywoodauditions.com ..but still don't know if it's a scam. Please help a dreamer to accomplish her dream.

I agree that you are not ready for an agent. The Cassidy Group has a terrific summer camp. Do not bother with web sites, they do not help you get cast and can wind up costing you money. You have to stop dreaming about being an actress and be one., Get into more plays. There must be community theatres you can work with. If your parents won't help you there is not much you can do until you are 18.

You live in montreal? This should be so easy, girl... Montreal is hype with fashion and big money just waiting to be thrown at somebody. First things first though, you need a manager. Go look around at various theaters and ask your friends/parents for contacts. This world is about networking, so start! :) When you establish a link/contact to get a manager or somebody who will take a look at you, the rest is up to you to show what you got! :) Hope you do well, but really there is no easy way to go about it. Just work and find your way in. :D

do things the other girls your age won't. And girls looking to be in the biz will do anything, so work on your gag reflexes.... you know, for singing and such.

Would you want a surgeon to operate on you who hadn't had any classes? Classes help you to understand differences betwee, say, acting for the camera and acting in a musical comedy or acting in a Shakespearean play. If you are in Montreal, you have plenty of oppotunities for classes and workshops and classes at school that cost nothing or very little. Also, local professional actors will coach you for about $50 per hour, but nothing's free. You're going to have to spend money to make money.

ps Also, teachers of classes are often directors who wind up casting their own students!

Everyone needs classes. I gaurantee that the training you would receive at a conservatory is leaps and bounds better than whatever you learned at school. It is an unfortunate actor who thinks that s/he has nothing left to learn.
You are not ready for an agent. Get some real training and experience.
