Position:Home>Theater & Acting> Beauty and the beast audition song??

Question:well,...I am auditioning in a few weeks for beauty and the beast. We are not supposed to sing a song from the musical though. I would rather do an uptempo song than a ballad.
I am pretty much an alto. I can sing some soprano songs but it depends on the song. I don't do really high songs and i would rather do a song where i dont have to go up into my head voice. Thanks for the help and please no answers like,"anything thats a musical" thx 4 the help!

Um well you should pick a song you really like so your character comes out on stage.
Also see if you can find the voice range for a character you want to be and sing a song that's like it.

A songs I like are
"I could have danced all night" My fair lady
"Any Dream Will Do" Joseph
"someone like you" from jekyll and hyde (ballad, but great song!)
"all I ask of you" phantom of the opera (maybe too high/slow?)
lol I'm a big fan of Andrew lloyd webber so maybe one of his songs!
Hope this helps!
Great luck on your auditions! Practice alot so you won't be nervous and have fun!

"16 Going on 17" from Sound of Music
"Comedy Tonight" from A Funny Thing Happened on The Way to the Forum
"I've Never Been In Love Before" from Guys and Dolls
"The Wizard and I" from Wicked
"My Junk" from Spring Awakeing
"Another Day" From RENT (Mimi's begining solo)
"Without Love" from Hairspray (Tracey's Part)

Hope this helps. Break a leg!

Big Blonde and Beautiful- Hairspray

For this kind of audition, a ballad is probably the best way to go as most of the songs are ballads. It's best not to use a song from musicals currentlt on broadway as the audition panel will have heard them over and over. See if you can find something obscure. Try an old off-broadway show. And try to work your belt if you don't have a high voice.
