Position:Home>Theater & Acting> Ways to save my voice for my show next week?

Question:I am in a theatre production of the musical All Shook Up next week, and I am concerned about my voice - I haven't been feeling up to singing lately, and my part requires me to belt some enormous notes. (can you say "high B?") I have been able to sing these in the past, and I am not sick, but I have been finding it difficult to sing my notes lately. I know I can hit them, but my voice has been cracking, I've been choking on notes, etc. Could this be because of the strenuous work I've been putting into my show? What kind of things can I do to prevent this from happening during a performance???

Thank yoU!!

If you are straining your voice, your vocal nodes are rubbing together too aggressively and you will ruin your voice. Vocal nodes will form and can cause callouses and scarring. Nearly all cheerleaders, coaches and sometimes preachers and other loud speakers will have some voice damage...ask them to sing for you. There is a proper way to belt out those notes, and if you are not doing it properly, you are hurting your voice and those notes will disappear because your voice will give out. You should never feel a strain in your throat...ever.

practice makes perfect

Rest your voice when not rehearsing. No excess talking. Try honey? I think that's what singers use to coat their throats.

Good luck.

Do not use hairspray indoors it hurts your vocal cords

hot tea, and lemon juice... hot tea souths the throat, and i dont know what the citris does but it feels great

Any hot liquids you can drink are good. If you have access to a sauna, sitting in there for awhile would do wonders for your voice. Sleep with a humidifier, especially in the months when you're running a heater.

Other than that, besides not talking, that's the best you can do. Break a leg!

u may be strainging ur voice from singing it 2 much maybe, or there may b something wrong. but have spoonful of honey with some warm water. avoid talking 2 much and 2 loud as much as u can. but still practice ur voice, warm up ur vocal chords, scale, but dont force it, or else it just mite get worse. and if ur couching but i dont think u ur. i heard somewhere that if u have some yourk pereppermint patties it will help u stop coughing. welll anyway, i hope u do good at ur show!!!!!

try to talk as little as possible and try not to yell. Also, drink lots of fluids, particulary water. it might have been because you throat is dry?

Professionals where I work use hot tea with lemon and honey. They also chill it and carry it in water bottles.
