Position:Home>Theater & Acting> Voice Over Demo costs, purpose, and content?

Question:As a young actress, I'm looking to get into voiceover and would like to know how to make a demo. I have contacted a local recording studio, but have some general questions. What goes on a demo (for a beginner)? How long is a demo? How much does it cost to make a demo? And any other info would be helpful. Thanks.

It really depends on what type of Voice Over work you're interested in doing. For a general Voice Demo sample, i would recommand 1-4 voice samples. Each should be 20-30 sececonds long.

I would include:

1) Short Greeting (Hello, My name is ..... This is my voice over demo. This is also your "narrator" voice)
2) Commercial Voice 1 (How you sound as if you're doing a commercial)
3) Commercial Voice 2 (if any. this need to sound different from the above)
4) Cartoon/Character Voice
5) Cartoon/Character Voice 2 (if any)
6) Foreign Language that you speal fluently or any particular Accent that you can do.

I don't know about the pricing for a professionally done demo, but you can easily record your own demo on your computer as individual mp3s. And then burn them onto a CD-Rom. Just make sure when you're recording your own demo, close all windows and doors - and make sure you're in a very quiet setting.
