Question:acting in front of strangers than in front of family? I am an aspiring actress and I see acting as an art, and I take it very seriously. I try to become my characters, as I feel that is what acting is all about, stepping outside of yourself and becoming someone else. I feel fine acting in front of strangers or friends, yet I don't like to act in front of family? Is that normal? What could be an explaination for this? If my brother wants to do a short skit, I won't do it. It has to be more official than that to me. I don't know..any thoughts will be appreciated.

That doesn't sound weird to me. Maybe the reason it feels more comfortable in front of strangers is because you long to act and you find it better when you don't know the audence. Does that make any sense?

I just think that maybe ur family may expect more from u and so are more critical so feel more comfortable acting in front of strangers.
Maybe u love showing off that talent and shining while ur family already knows about it it is no longer that fun! (just a suggestion)
Maybe (as i said) u like to shine and feel the king (or queen) of the world, but when ur brothr does it he steals the light! (or atleast u have to share! again just a suggestion)

Totally normal, you see you don't need acceptance from strangers, you a free, but friends and family you want them to approve of you, so it is much harder, whenever I do plays I tell everyone I know "here's the info DONT TELL ME WHEN YOU ARE COMING I WILL SEE YOU AFTER THE SHOW!!!"

Very normal.

You are not loose enough to properly act and are probably just pretending--I recommend you read Eric Morris techniques and loosen up because good acting does not depend upon who is watching..... just a thought
