On Golden Pond (the play)?

Question:My acting class is going to give the preformance, On Golden Pond, by Ernest Thompson and I was casted as Chelsea Thayer. I was wondering how this character is thought of, I have never seen the movie, and I have read the script. I've formed my own opinion but was just curious what other people thought.

I think Chelsea is a vulnerable little girl looking for her stern father's approval and hiding her vulnerability in strong character traits. She's a powerhouse woman who all her life has just wanted her daddy to love her and her father didn't know how to show it.
