Position:Home>Theater & Acting> I have no experience of acting, would this be a problem If I was aspiring to be

Question:I'm 19 and recently (about two months ago) found myself interested in pursing a career in it, but I'm aware of how difficult it is to make a way into the business especially outside of America... Ireland to be exact. I'm QUITE good looking and some people reckon I look like Tom Cruise and have noted this in the past, I merely take this as a compliment plus no one knows that I want to be an actor! basically I'm relying on my looks and personally believe I have a "face" for acting.

it really depends. If you're going for stage you most DEFINITLEY need more than the 'face' for acting. It's a plus to be pretty but you also need the talent.
If you're going for screen then that rely's more on face than talent (two words: Keanu Reeves) But if you really are EXPECTING to make it on looks alone please go find another profession. As an actress myself I can tell you that, that attitude does not fly in the business. Most people who became famous really weren't looking for fame and fortune and definitley had a love for the business rather than expecting to make it on looks alone. Please, don't take the job away from actors that actually DO love the business and actually HAVE the talent.
I'm sorry if that's not your goal but from the way you typed it's what you're thinking and no one in this business has the time or the tolerance for that kind of attitude.

just go to college and try and if you change your mind thats ok cause most people in college pursue something and change there minds and try something else. if it turns out actings not for you try modeling (if you think you look good enough for it.) (p.s acting can be hard you have to memorize like whole scenes word for word.)

You cant just "jump into" acting. Youve got to study it. If you do something in school you study it first. Study and I hope you make it.

I'm sorry but all because you have good looks does not mean you are going to land roles in acting, theatre or television. Acting is such a competetive career and directors and producers will only choose those with talent. Iv'e been doing acting for 11 years now and recommend you join a stage school as they give you loads of opportunitys for auditions and professional training. x

I'm not an expert; I'm only a 17-year-old Wisconsin girl who is also planning to pursue acting. This is mostly based off my own personal opinion, so feel free to do with it what you will.

It's not just good looks alone that gets an actor into the business (despite what hollywood would have us believe.) Seriously, nothing makes me cringe more than to watch a pretty face on screen/stage who can't act (*cough cough* Miley Cyrus *cough cough*).

Anyway, the more experience you have with acting, the better. Not only can you learn from your experiences, but it will also make you more marketable; it's practically routine for directors to require auditioners to list past acting experiences. Do what you gotta do: take classes, do community theatre, audition, do free acting jobs, GET INVOLVED.

So, what made you suddenly interested in pursuing acting?

Why don't you find your local community theater group (i.e. people who put together productions for fun or as volunteers) and try out for a show? There, you'll likely meet other people who have been acting for a long time that can give you some pointers. Get involved behind the scenes and learn what it takes to put a production together.

Do the local universities offer acting classes? Try them, too.

Acting is not just about looking good, it's the ability to "become" someone else, and convince the audience that you are that character. It's about making them feel.

There are a million people who are attracted to fame and fortune so they decide to be actors or musicians, so keep that in mind - you are a little fish in a great big ocean. Good luck!

well.... it wouldn't be impossible to become an actor if u have no experience, but it would be incredibly hard.... if its something you really want to do, i would start getting some experience.... try auditioning for a local play.... this should get you started at least.... i hope my advice has helped you.
