I'm from NY, GA and now living in Arizona.

There are a few common things with New York accents.

New York is said: New Yawk
Hello is said: YO!

New Yorkers speak quick, loud and emphasize powerful syllables as opposed to southerners that tend to completely change a syllable all together.

You may be best with renting and listening to Raymonds voice on Everyone loves raymond.

Or, rent Annie and I'm sure you'll get most the lines in a new yorker accent for you.

There are variations in the "New York Accent." For instance, someone from the Bronx would not sound exactly like someone from Brooklyn or Queens. Most often, the Brooklyn sound is the one people use. An excellent choice would be the movie "Newsies." Max Casella's accent is thick (there are others too), and dead-on Brooklyn. (Incidentally, the Sopranos is set in - and is filmed in - New Jersey.)

sopranos is from jersey

say "fuggedaboudit" and "it's ridiculous!" all the time

say "whaddayawanfromme" and "gedoutddaheyah"

And instead of whore say "hoo-uhh."
