Position:Home>Theater & Acting> Isn't it ironic 3 Europeans won best acting Oscars for portraying Americans?

Question:4 Europeans got the acting Oscars - that's been pointed out a lot. But 3 of the Europeans were portraying Americans. They did a great job ... but it's ironic. Thoughts about this? Why can't Americans be Americans? :)

Not really ironic...

Just means that we have some phenomenal actors world-wide, and sometimes Americans just don't have the exact "look" or utility directors are looking for.

I wish as country we could stop using the "Alanis Morrisette" definition of irony in the US. Report It

  • very ironic.

There's nothing ironic about it. Most Americans were Europeans few centuries ago. Remember the Pilgrims in 1620?

First I would have to say that acting is acting.
Second the Oscars represent what is popular with the Hollywood elitists. Not the world.
To be honest the academy rarely represents the best movies or the best actors. Usually it represents what is contemporary. What they call best movie is usually the one made by the popular in Hollywood.
Kind of like the homecoming queen in high school. In fact I have a higher opinion of the selection of the homecoming queen than I do the academy awards in the past 20 years or so.
