Help..Hope Harcourt in Anything Goes (1987) during "Blow, Gabriel, Blow&quo

Question:Hi! I just got cast as Hope Harcourt in the 1987 version of Anything Goes at my High School. My main question is this. Evelyn pulls and forces Hope onstage for "Blow, Gabriel, Blow". The cast just learned the dance/movements for Gabriel. My character doesn't want to be there, so I really shouldn't be that into the dancing, but if I don't do it correctly it will look like I don't know it or don't care. How do I find the right balance? Or should I just do the dance just like everyone else?

Also..does anyone have tips for making Hope more interesting and fun? I want my character to be memorable and it seems like you have to work hard to do that with Hope instead of just relying on lines or songs.

I was in this show! But I think I was in the other version. In our show we had Bonnie and in yours I think that her name is Erma or something. Well in our show I don't remember if Hope was in that song. I think that if she was, Hope was in the background sitting at one of the tables looking incredibly bored and uncomfortable while everyone else around her tap danced their hearts out. What I think you should do if you have to dance in the number is just pretend you are doing something uncomfortable. Like pretend you really don't want to be there but all your friends say oh this is so much fun you should do it too. If I remember correctly, Hope really doesn't like Reno who sings "Blow Gabriel Blow". Take that into consideration. If you were Hope, how would you act in real life. Also, Hope doesn't really love Evelyn she loves Billy Crocker so remember that. I think your character might find the situation embarrassing but of course joins in anyway. Whatever you do, have fun because if you are gonna do it, do it big! :)
