Position:Home>Theater & Acting> How does a 14 year old become an actress?

Question:I'm 14 and having a hard time convincing everyone that all i want to do in life is act.
So many kids want to, but I dont even know where to get started.
my friends think i'm already doing well- I just got a part in a national connexions theatre project, but its not as special as it sounds!
My mum is supportive but she thinks I should just be patient.
I really cant stress how much i want this, if anyone has any tips, advice or anything else i'd be really grateful.

My first recommendation would be training. In some areas (the UK and France, Canada) there are more chances to get into a training program than in the US. Most folks in the US go to conservatory programs for college. In the time being, act all you can. Everywhere.

Audition for everything you can. Local stuff. Even learning to audition is a skill that takes a long time to master. Do as much work as you can locally. Acting is something you learn to do, like anything else, over a period of years. Also, 14 can be a tricky age - there are not a lot of roles. "Girl" roles tend to be written younger, and ingenue roles are older. In the time being, have fun, audition much, and learn all you can.

u should try to audition for roles and listen to you're mother, she knows best even if you dont think so.

try conviceing them to let you go audtion for broedway. you might get rejected but keep up hope!

Get connected with a Recruitment Acting agency and start off with small gigs like commercials etc..

...U gotta start somewea....

P.S. Drama school would be an advantage also..

Look for casting calls on Google

Backstage.com is great if you're serious about acting. But you need to pay for a subscription.

Just audition like crazy- school plays, community theatre. Anything you can get your hands on. Experience goes a long, long way. But don't put your studies aside or you'll regret it later. A well-rounded actor needs an education too.

i'm the same age as you and i also want to do acting i jsut came across this website half and hour ago www.starnow.com and i found it very good.
