Position:Home>Theater & Acting> Is it too late???????

Question:Well I have been a dancer for a long time, and I want to get serious about acting. I am 14 now, and I feel like I am too late to want to get into serious acting. I love acting (always have) and I feel like there are soooo many teen stars that have been doing this forever and that I am starting too late. I have taken some classes, and once my braces are off I will be in local commericials, but still, am I too late to persue a career in acting?

Absolutely not - In fact, most stars who have a real, lasting career don't get serious until college or later. You probably won't be a teen idol, because it usually takes years of hard work for a person to earn enough of a reputation to be famous.

Acting is a business... money is the biggest thing - you need to invest a lot of money and time in yourself if you want someone to invest money in you... getting headshots, going to HUNDREDS of auditions, taking acting lessons.

Actors who are kids or teenagers are usually there because their parents got them there. Miley Cyrus? Daughter of a famous man. You WILL need your parents in order to succeed. If your parents say no, then you will have to work hard on developing your skills until you can choose for yourself.

Being young is for discovering what you love. If you love acting, then do it as much as you can. If you love it, you won't do it for the fame, you'll do it for the enjoyment.

So do what you can - get yourself out there - pray - invest time and money in yourself - and just do what you love!

if you're really serious about acting, it's good that you not start as a child actor. very few child actors make the transition to adult acting

Not all! But as you know from your dancing it takes a lot of hard work! And as for your braces, don't wait for them to come off start now!!!

No, 14 is quite young and not at all too late to start. Don't worry about the teen star thing. Only a very few people ever reach that status. The majority of working actors are not well-known to the public and simply go from gig to gig, taking classes and auditioning. Do it if that is the lifestyle you enjoy.
