to me yes you do. im very happy that you saw the show. isn't it just wonderful! i do think you should read the 40 pages.

Is it interesting? Is it set up? Does it talk about the play?
Why not just read the play and go back later to read the background?

No....just skip it honestly i did the same thing. it didnt change the book.

The earlier pages set up Elphaba's past, and refrences are made to it later in the book.

I hope you're aware that the book is very different from the play! x] Anyway, I would read it. It's interesting, and references are made later.

Wicked the book is a very hard read. And it doesn't get any easier after the first 60 pages. I would recommend trying to read it (without skipping) if you want to, but don't feel bad if you have to put it down and come back to it in a few years.

Yes. The book "Wicked" is like "LOST," with puzzle after puzzle and clue after clue. While the story is as a little different in the book and musical, it is worth trying to unravel it.
