I don't think that they did have a big fall out before the Tony's. I think that it was mainly the media and the fans trying to make things a bit more interesting. As you mentioned, they still seemed very close at Kristin's last show. And if you watch when Idina wins the Tony, she kisses Kristin first (even before her husband Taye) and Kristin is the first person that she mentions in her speech. They did not have a big fight before the Tony Awards, they were good friends before as well as after.

This is the closest I could find, but it doesn't suggest that they fought with each other.
