Callbacks are different from auditions. At an audition they're mostly interested in physical and vocal types and basic technical ability, poise and personality, and whether you physcally fit any of the roles they're casting.

You've passed that test. Congratulations!

Now they are considering you for an actual role. So they will ask you to read from the script, usually with other auditioners, to see what personalities and physical types would match, and whether they believe you could carry the role.

Go in with the belief that you have already got the role (without saying so-- don't be arrogant or overconfident, just have confidence). Have an idea of the character, and make sure you interact withother actors if you're reading with someone. They want to know if you can work in a team or if you're just there for yourself.

theY want actors who work together as an ensemble; so when your character is not talking, listen and react as would on stage.

if they give you direction, that's a good sign. they are considering you, but want to see how you can adapt,h ow you take direction. If you have a question about the scene, the character's motivation or mood, ASK! That shows you want direction, are flexible and open to suggestions, willing to take direction and that they can work with you. Thank them for their directionor help, and then give 100%.

even if you're "wrong",they will notice your energy and committment, and will take the time to say "Try it this way".

That's not criticism, that shows interest.

Don;'t ever announce that you will not accept any other part,or refuseto read fora part..(You can always refuse the role aftrwards if they cast you --but remember, acting is a team sport, to be in the game you have to be on the team -- you're time will come.

Use every opportunity to read and perform in a call back. Even if you're given one line to read in a scene, make the most of it. and BE INTHE SCENE! Be in character -- listen and react as that character would. S ometimes directors put thier first choices in smaller roles tosee howthey interact in an ensemble. Dont "steal" the scene, but be part of it.

Most of all HAVE FUN. After all,You'redoing the part you want, so enjoy it ,and give it everything you have. Even if you're not cast, they'll remember your talent, committment and enthusiasm.

Believe me, directors do not forget good auditions. Even if they can't use you in that particular production youlll have a head start the next timeyou audtion for them..

But don't worry about that--MAKE them want to cast you!

When I directed, I changed the roles of several other actors, because they best fit the one actor I HAD TO HAVE!

BE THAT ACTOR !
