Question:What you see on the red carpets and the tabloids is only a small part of it. And that life is reserved for just a small percentage of people working in Hollywood. For most people, the Hollywood reality is working long hours in crap jobs while pimping yourself for any potential role/break. Think of all the people you see in movies and realize that only a handful of those in each movie are actually brining in a sizable paycheck.

Those who are trying to get into a more technical field maybe have it a bit easier. If the goal is to get in as a cinematographer or set designer or costumer designer, there are low level jobs you can get that will help you work you way up. The biggest trick is to just get a foot in the door because many directors and/or production companies tend to re-use the same crew from movie to movie.

Hollywood is a low rent and dirty part of Los Angeles. Walk down Hollywood Blvd. in downtown Hollywood and it's homeless people, drug addicts and porn shops. At night, the clubs open and celebrities get trashed - always valeting their car so they don't have to actually walk down the streets at 2am.

There are nearly 10 million people living in Los Angeles, only a fraction live a glamorous and wealthy life. There are areas, like parts of downtown, that would qualify as 3rd world in terms of poverty.

LA is like most large cities. There are high rent areas and low rent areas and everything in between.

I have lived here for over 10 years and there is nothing glamorous about my lifestyle and I work in TV and Film. It's 12-14 hour days, 6 days a week. Hardly living the high life.
