some put a liquid thing, some put onion juice under their eyes and some really get in it and cry!

Many actors were taught to cry, in acting school.
The teachers with whom I studied, gave us numerous methods for crying on cue. It's easy and fun.

they do all of the stuff

They usually get in the moment and cry. That is what I do. I just think of something sad and then tears come. When I saw Wicked I asked that and it was the same answer I put.

they could study how someone looks when they cry, and just mimic the actions. sometimes theyll get out of character and think of a personal experience, but alot of directors dont like that.

Some actors can just cry on cue, others can't.
I believe the fake tears they use is called glycerine... not entirely sure.. but most people prefer to really cry. It's better because there's a look in their eyes that you can't get with fake tears!

Some might have a liquid thing, others just bring up pianful memories and emotions that make them cry, just depends on thier style.
