Position:Home>Theater & Acting> I am interested in theatre directing. How can I find some actors who want me to

Question:I work full time and guess I always will but my love is theatre, and I've found out I;m good at working out scenes and staging and helping to get more out of texts, dramatising them. How can I find some actors who want me to help them put on their play? Thanks! Am in London. Just had a 1:1 workshop session with professional actress, I told her I have no interest in acting but everyone tells me the director must understand the actors' problems. We did a speech and dramatic exercises, and I just kept getting ideas of how the scene could be done, I loved it, really exciting, but I need actors! Any ideas? Thanks!

Right, you need to have experince of acting, in my opinion, in order to understand what it is like to be an actor as well.

So, why not get a community theatre group underway. Put ads out in your local shop windows, library, local paper, any local arts centres etc, to get people who may be interested. have an initual meeting to agree a theme that you would like to work on, and have someone (maybe from a local writers group???) who may be interested in coming in on script writing if you have not the time to write one yourself (using an off-the-shelf one is great, if you can afford the royalties).

be aware that with a new community group you will do an awful lot of work, not just directing - you may have to act a small role to fill casting gaps, help with sets, costumes, publicity, all kinds of tasks. However small the project you need to be ready to multitask! Possible venues for the finished work could be arts festivals, hotel conference rooms, pubs, all kinds of venues, you dont always need a theatre.

You could also use the Internet for seeking actors: mandy.com and starnow.com are good sites, just be sure to be absolutely clear about what you want to set up, and about payments or lack of.

Hope it goes well.

Arath gave a good answer!
Do you mean you want to help people with their acting face-to-face- or maybe helping them through the internet?
Im always looking for new ways to act- so if you have any acting tips or excersises, techniques- im very interested! Through email, that would be great!
