Their really are not courses in how to become an agent. Your best bet is to take theatre and film courses in acting and directing and get a decent feel for the world of both. Then also take a few business courses as the bulk of what an agent does is working with negotiations and contracts.

A good agent has a great memory, excellent people skills, is tough but friendly, knows how to unruffle feathers with ease and knows every in and out of the business.

To start your own agency takes money, connections and a fantastic knowledge for how the field works. Your best bet is to start out interning for an established and respected agent. You will learn a ton. Then see if you can make yourself indispensable there and get hired. Eventually you will learn how the business works and have a feel for whether you want to run your own company or not.
