The first thing to remember is that a really legit agent will not ask you for money upfront for any money. This includes money to be placed in their book which showcases kids they represent and supposedly is given to casting directors. You should also not be obligated to use only the photographer(s) they suggest in order to be represented or be forced to take their acting classes. That being said, you will find that most of the legit agents are franchised by SAG-AFTRA or Actors Equity. Although they don't claim any responsibility for their franchised agents behavior it does mean that the agencies have met certain standard. Of course it goes without saying that your sons should be prepared to train before or while seeking an agent. If you are interested in having them train for musical theater, they will need to be trained in singing, dancing and acting.
