Position:Home>Theater & Acting> There's a musical at school,should i try out?

Question:well i can't sing, so it would be a backup dancer, we're doing Hairspray my favorite movie and play, so it would be a part on the Corny Collins show, I've been dancing since i was 3 and now i'm 4 but i'm really nervous, I'm a freshman and i'm kind a nervous about doing really badly, the tryouts are next week, and i don't know if i have to come up with a dance my self or if they will teach it to me, so should i try out?

TRY OUT!

Its a wonderful experience, even if you don't get in, and it will draw you out of your shell.

I am a theatre major, and I've been acting all my life, and its the most beneficial thing I've ever decided to do.

They will teach you a dance, you don't have to make one up, I promise.

...You're 4? And a freshman? I don't believe you. :)

Anyways, for your own sake, please try out. It might become a passion! It did for me.

I hope that helped!

Certainly you should go for it. You've spent your life preparing for this time. Suck it up and remember what it is you want to do, and do it!!

Ask some questions and find out what you will need to do.

Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!

ABSOLUTLY! Go for it,Baby.I was nervous as a cat when I tried out for my first high school play(West Side Story) and was surprised when I got picked to play Indio,Bernardo's right-hand man! I was 14 too and it was the most fun I ever had in my life up til then. You shouldn't cheat yourself of the opportunity because, trust me,you won't regret trying!

Absolutely you should try out - it will be a great experience for you. If you have been dancing since you were 3 - you should do really well and not being able to sing well is not very important to play one of the dancers on the Corney Collins show. They will most likely give you a combination to do - you don;t have to have a dance prepared - they want to make sure you can dance in the 60's style of the show.
GO FOR IT - HAVE FUN!

I agree....go for it! If you've been dancing for such a long time, your training is bound to show through to an experienced choreographer. However, it is best to find out what the requirements are before you go to the audition. Even if they teach you a dance, you need to know what to wear and which(if any) dance shoes to bring with you. Most likely, you will be taught a dance. The choreographer or director will be looking to see how you move and how quickly you catch on. People who have studied dance usually pick things up more quickly than those who are not trained. Even if you don't get a part this time, you'll gain by the experience of auditioning and will know what to expect next time. This will help you when you
want to audition for another show, perhaps a community show or next year's high school musical Good luck to you....

Sure! Give it a try. Maybe a chorus part where your voice could be hidden. Good luck!

omg do it!!! You'll have a BLAST
