Every person gets nervous before they take the stage (regardless of how famous they are).

You are there to tell a story ...which is what reading the poem will do.

Try to concentrate on the story within the poem. Practice reading the poem out loud... and in front of a mirror. Tape record yourself reading it out loud, and figure out if there's a better way to convey the message(s) of the poem.

You'll be fine. People are NOT there to judge you, they are there to listen to music, stories, etc.

the more you practice the more you will find the words just role off your tongue !!

If you practice it quite often before then, you should be just fine. Good luck!

Just go out there, and do the best you can. I have never heard anyone get booed at a school performance.

Actually stepping out onto the stage is the hardest part. Once you are out there, it will be over before you know it. Go for it!

I took a lot of speech classes and to be truthful the best way to combat the fear is saying in front of a mirror out loud. You're afraid of what the audience will see, once you get accustomed and see that it's not that awful, you will be able to do it just fine. Good Luck!

when your up there on the stage or whatever think of yourself in your room reading and ignore everyone in the crowd.i hope everything goes good.
: )

Go though the poem with people in your class and maybe others in your school so that they can hear it... they might be able to offer you advice and ways to make it better.

Do some breathing excersises before you do the poem, like just breathing in for five seconds then out for five seconds. Do this ten times or so, and you will feel much calmer.

Performing is very nerve-wracking and sometimes really scary.. But once you have done it you will feel so proud of yourself!

good luck!

when you are in the stage and all the lights are on you, you cant see the people, so it is as if they are not even there, just practice, practice, practice what you are to say, and when the time comes your mouth and brain will do all the talking, you just have to stand there.dont worry, it gets better with time and practice, you might even like it.

I used to always be nervous about that stuff too, I'm sure you can read it with emotion already but, to build up your confidence I would practise a bit more. Also I am sure you will do great!!!

i think you'll do fine. being nervous for your first play is completely natural. just thinkk about it this way... its a great oppurtunity for a shy girl to show everyone what you're capable of doing. show them the best. and if you're nervous about the play itself, practice. practice and MORE practice. until you live the poem, breathe the poem and well you know... understand the poem.. you cant succeed on anything that you want to do unless you don't have practice.

SO I WISH YOU GOOD LUCK!!!!

and practice in front of everyone you're comfortable of talking too!!! so that you'll get a little vibe of how it would feel like okai!

People probably won't boo you. I'm sure once you get on stage you'll do fine. Try breathing deeply before going on stage, and stay calm when you are performing. There has been BAD performances I've seen before, and nobody has booed them. Trust me. I have stage fright sometimes, too. But once I get on stage I have a great time and just give it all I got. You'll learn to love it.

Good luck :)

they wont boo you, thats only in the movies. just practice practice practice......try in front of a group of friends or your parents or maybe some people you're not as close and comfortable with to get that fear out.

even if you do mess up, this is your road to doing better
if you keep trying and speaking in front of large audiences you'll eventually get better
and someday you could become a famous poet ;)
just relax, let it be fun, i mean what do you have to lose?

hope this helped

Here is the biggie. Do you believe in the ideas in the poem? If you don/t you shouldn't read it, if you do, go out there and read it like you believe it with all your being.

You'll do fine. I could spout some crap like "picture the audience in the buff" and what not but I don't think that works. Just act like it is rehearsal and you'll be fine
best of....I mean brake a leg

There are three things that can help you; 1. practice reciting the poem out loud until you have the words practically memorized. It will help you to automatically continue reading it on the day of the performance, even if you are so nervous that you feel like you are going to choke on the words. 2. Breathe. Especially right before you go on stage, breathe slowly in through your nose and out through your mouth and concentrate on relaxing the muscles in your body. 3. Pretend. Act like the audience isn't there. Imagine yourself to be some where comfortable and easy. Good luck!

well...i am in drama so i do this all the time....ur going to be nervous ur first time and ya u may suck but the worst that will happen is some jerk will make fun of u only because they know it will make them look cool and take the pressure off of them if they have to perform something also...so dont worry about it...but the more u do things like that (getting in front of people) the more u get used to it and i know u hear this probably all of the time but its true. still to this day i get nervous and i get in front of people all the time....but i think u will do fine so dont sweat it...just know that wat u r doing is honoring people who dedicated their lives to helping this country have peace....i hope that helps :)

I know how you feel.I took a public speaking course for the first half of the year this year.I only took it so I could become a more confident speaker. My teacher told the class that very few people like speaking aloud. So hopefully the audience will feel supportive and be glad that they're not onstage. Believe me it is very hard..and I still dont like it at all.But my teacher also told the class to practice practice..anywhere.In front of a mirror your friends and family..As for tone and feeling you have to work on that yourself. And you have to be able to project your voice.Hmm also know what you talking about.. you have to be convincing..dont memorize you will seem robotic..um im trying to remember what I learned.Oh yes..at the back of the audience if your in an auditorium there is usually a clock or an exit sign above the doors.my teacher told us to look at those instead of the audience. It will seem like your looking at them.If you get nervous you can try this breathing technique.
its calld fortunate.
breath in for 4 seconds
hold it in for 2 seconds
and let out for 8 seconds.it helps relax you.
I hope everything goes well.and i hope my answer helps you.
best of luck

I was in many school productions when i was in High School. I remeber doind this one play where i made a fool of myself but it is all fun. When you get nervous just think about what you are doing it for and maybe have something in your pocket you can take you anger out on like a paperclip.

Firstly try taking a number of deep breaths - count to 6 in and out. Practice shouting out loudly - anything will do eg hello, i am strong, i can do this. Rehearse the poem many times - you will perfect the delivery once you know the words. Record yourself & change the inflections (feelings, sounds) on the key words and "feel" which are the best. Once you have the words and the feeling, make one last recording and play it as you are going to sleep. I do these things when rehearsing for plays. Lastly - dont worry about feeling nervous - the adrenalin makes a better performance! Enjoy and good luck! You won't be booed cos you feel passionate about it!
