Question:we are writing a play at my school, and i need some ideas for my character. in the play, an art crime is commmited, and a newspaper blames the people of the town and they all get mad. At the end my character and the character of the artist go into a monolouge about how it doesnt matter who did it but why (We live in the town where the frost cabin was vandalized and we have been talking a lot about it) So anyway. Right now i am just a norman townsperson, a little more enlightened than the others in the town. I need help developing. Should i have a job? i could be the artists agent, but that would make be obsessed iwth $, and i am not supposed to be stupid. I need something so that i have character!!! ideas, jobs that i i could do concerning art, ect. One i chose wins best answer

Perhaps you are an artists agent because you love art, and want to promote a bright young talent in the face of a town that is obsessed with money and sees no value in artwork unless it can be sold for a fortune right away.
Your motivation in figuring out who stole the painting then becomes why it was stolen - who thought it was valuable or good enough to steal, and to return it to your struggling artist client who is living hand-to-mouth. Agents have different motivations than just the commission - you can develop that and make your character lovable.

Good luck

First of all, if two characters are talking, it's a dialogue, not a monologue. Since you are writing the play, you could go with a stock character of the wise fool. A street person the artist has befriended, maybe, or an old person everyone has ignored, or even a child. The choice would be best made to suit what that reason the art crime was committed was.

Could your character either be the:
Town Mayor who has a deep passion for art
Town Historian who is a big fan of the art piece
Town Busy Body who just wants to know everything about everything
Town Art Teacher at school
Hope these help!
